the definition of murder is, in case you weren’t aware, “the unlawful killing, with malice aforethought (premeditation), of another human.” did you notice the “unlawful” part? abortion is legal, i.e. lawful, and is therefore disqualified as murder by the very definition of the word.
the only time an abortion can legally be considered murder, at least in the united states, is if the fetus has been gravely injured during the commission of any numerous federal violent crimes, thanks to the unborn victims of violence act, which i actually agree with. this bill explicitly contains a provision for the exception of abortions and doesn’t permit prosecution “of any person for conduct relating to an abortion for which the consent of the pregnant woman, or a person authorized by law to act on her behalf.” roe v. wade was decided on 41 years ago and still stands today, nullifying your argument; the right to privacy under the due process clause of the fourteenth amendment certainly extends to a woman’s decision to have an abortion (until viability).
the definition of personhood isn’t universal — we know this. there will probably be no single definition of it, either. you have the right to choose how you define personhood, but i’m sure you would be outraged if that right were taken away. women have the right—a constitutional right, i might add, that has been recognized in the united states for 41 years—to choose how and when their pregnancy will end, should they not want the child they are carrying. it doesn’t affect you whatsoever if it isn’t your pregnancy. you don’t get to control reproductive rights of anyone but yourself based on your moral standards. morality is different for everyone and is not a universal concept, much like the definition of “personhood” is not.
as for your “tax dollars” paying for a “baby holocaust”, the hyde “amendment” (technically, it’s not a permanent law, but it’s a rider that has been attached to appropriations bills since the late 1970s) bars the use of federal funds to pay for abortions that are not medically necessary or are not because of rape or incest sought by women on medicaid. however, 32 states and D.C. provide abortions in cases of endangerment, rape and incest for low-income women. (this is the federal standard — states must meet this requirement; one state doesn’t meet this requirement, however, and provides abortions only in cases of life endangerment). 17 states provide funds for all or most medically necessary abortions. of those 17, four do this voluntarily and the remainder because of a court order to do so. these are deemed MEDICALLY NECESSARY, these are not women who seek abortions “just because” (although i’m not sure any woman does that in the first place). there are similar measures in place that bar the use of federal funds for abortions for women who are in the military, women who are in federal prisons, women receiving healthcare through the indian health service, and women who are federal employees and rely on its health benefits program.
and really, stop comparing a woman’s right to an abortion to the holocaust. it’s disgusting and completely unjustifiable. there are numerous motives a woman may have for seeking an abortion—motives that an anti-abortion ohio representative has publicly admitted to never considering—but i can assure you they are not the same motives facilitators of genocide and systematic extermination have. women seeking abortions are not motivated by hatred of unborn children but rather how their own life will be affected by giving birth to a child (and usually it won’t be in a positive way, especially for women who are in poverty and the minority), and how decent a life they can provide for a child.
please don’t send me a message this stupid ever again.
I don’t want to talk about my job search, but my job search is like the only thing going on with me.
Not seeing my family for easter is probably better because then I won’t have to hear everyone’s “advice”.
If I’m ever in charge of hiring people I will make sure I actually contact them when I say I will.
Because damn, this sucks.
Even if they just tell me I didn’t get the job at least I’ll know.
There was a girl I went to elementary school who was really mean to me, and her favorite color was lime green. It all makes sense now.
But srsly though
If you ever find yourself in a Disney movie
And someone or something starts being mysteriously surrounded by lime green
Stay away from the thing
Everything lime green is evil
Just remember that.
Everything lime green is evil.
Every Villain Is Lime
